Family: mother and father, both deceased

New Sword: Souhi (Blue Ice)
Price to Pay the Time Witch: His sword, Ginryuu--a family heirloom and weapon of his deceased father
Kurogane is an elite ninja, bodyguard and best swordsman of the princes Tomoyo in the land of Japan. She is a miko-princess and had placed protective barriers around to keep away demons and monsters. Kurogane’s mother was also a miko and protected the borders of his father’s lands. However, he once went out to fight with a family heirloom, the Ginryu and was killed. Kurogane, a child then, had wanted to go with him but his father had told him to stay with his mother, who was sick. During the time his father went out to fight, she was suddenly murdered. There was magic involved, a sword with a bat-like crest—thus, the barriers dropped and demons and monsters swarmed.
One of them brought back a chunk of his father’s arm, Ginryuu still in hand. The almost simultaneous brutal deaths of his mother and father sent him into a rage. He destroyed the monsters and when the Empress showed up (Tomoyo’s big sis), after finding out what had happened, she discovered a crazed, blood-covered boy, still dragging around his mother’s body. She sent ninja to subdue him and he killed them all. Big sis was about to go herself but then Tomoyo stopped her and went to Kurogane. She held him with magic so he wouldn’t hurt her, approached and shut his mother’s eyes saying, “Let her sleep…” and everything seemed to drain out of him. When he awoke, he was in Shirasaki castle. He devoted his life to becoming a ninja, finding the killer of his mother (which he never did) and most of all, Tomoyo.
However, he grew up to be proud. He wanted to be the strongest swordsman in Japan and he killed anyone who stood in front of him—sometimes needlessly. It was for this reason that Tomoyo finally sent him away—as there were no other stronger then him and she wanted him to learn the meaning of ‘true strength’—to the Time Witch, Yuuko.
Upon arrival he discovers he isn’t the only one there. There are three others. A powerful wizard with a cheerful façade named Fai, and a boy named Syaoran and his princess, Sakura who had just had her memories stolen. All of them wanted the same thing—to travel worlds. Kurogane wanted to go back to his, Fai was running from his, and Syaoran wanted to travel to different dimensions to retrieve the memories (in the form of feathers) for Sakura. Of course, the Time Witch grants wishes, but for a price. Each had to pay with their most prized possession.
Fai was forced to give up a tattoo seal on his back, Syaoran paid dearly—that no matter if Sakura ever got her feathers back, she would never remember him or the relationship they had, Kurogane had to give up his sword, Ginryuu (but called Yuuko and bitch and swore he’d return to get it from her).
Kurogane’s relationship with the others is rocky, especially at first. He wants nothing to do with them; he just wants to get home. Fai aggravates him especially with his constant cheery front. Eventually, however, he becomes protective of them and even consents to teach Syaoran how to use a sword.
Kurogane is a powerful ally, immensely strong, fearless and strategic. He plays to win and doesn’t back down unless his enemy brings him down. He is a hard man, taciturn and gruff but would give his life for those he protected.
